ISLAMABAD: Attorney General (AG) Usman Awan told the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court on Tuesday that the federal government has chosen to contest the court’s order to establish a full-court bench to discuss the authority of committees allocating cases to benches.
Since Justice Mansoor Ali Shah was not authorized to take suo motu notice, the AG contended that he had overreached himself.
“The federal government will challenge yesterday’s unconstitutional order,” the AG told the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court while a case involving a customs regulation duty was being heard.
The file was sent to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya after a two-member bench consisting of Justice Shah and Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi retracted the contempt notice against Additional Registrar (Judicial) Nazar Abbas.
