Harris began her extensive legal career in 1990 as a deputy district attorney with a focus on prosecuting criminals of child sexual assault.
It lasted until 2017, when she became the attorney general of California and took charge of the biggest state justice department in the nation.
She claims that “a very strong sense of responsibility to protect those who are vulnerable” is what motivated her and continues to motivate her.
However, where did that feeling of accountability originate?
She claimed that a terrible circumstance involving her best buddy from high school served as the impetus.
Raised in Berkeley, California, Ms. Harris relocated to Montreal, Canada, for high school with her mother, Shyamala Gopalan, and sister, Maya. Ms. Gopalan is a scientist who studies breast cancer, and she was hired for a research position there.
She first encountered Wanda Kagan, a fellow new student, at West Mount High School.
The two became close buddies very quickly. But as they got closer, Ms. Harris sensed something wasn’t quite right.
With Ms. Kagan’s consent, she first discussed the incident in a video that she posted to her social media in 2020.
