The International Skating Union (ISU) demoted Russia from gold to bronze after 17-year-old Kamila Valieva was given a four-year sentence for doping in January.
Japan took home silver, while the United States advanced to the gold rank.
Russia wants to be reinstated as the gold medallists, but Canada feels they should have received bronze.
The ISU stated that although Valieva’s marks were removed, Russia’s final score was one point higher than Canada’s in fourth place.
As of right now, there’s no word on when the matter might be resolved through a hearing.
The eight Canadian competitors, backed by their national organization, feel they should have been on the podium instead of the Russians because they disagree with the ISU’s assessments.
The national skating federation, the national Olympic committee, and six Russian skaters—among them Valieva—have all filed three different appeals in the meanwhile, requesting to be promoted back to the gold medal position.
