As Karachi Port Trust (KPT) officials, supported by police and Rangers, began an operation to evict the decades-old Kakka Peer community, a violent altercation broke out near Mauripur.
Police used aerial shooting and baton charges during the operation, injuring multiple persons.
As they refused to leave the settlement and fought eviction, other demonstrators were also taken into custody.
Protesters vowed not to leave the area under any circumstances and fiercely opposed the removal drive.
