A SIO at the Civil Lines police station in Karachi is shown on camera intimidating the mother of a suspect who was detained in connection with a weapons investigation. Abdul Rashid, the SIO, has been suspended by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South following the release of the video.
The Civil Lines police station was the scene of the incident. The suspect in prison was allegedly tortured by SIO Abdul Rashid, who then contacted the suspect’s mother and forced her hear her son’s cries. She was to bring money to the station, he insisted.
SIO Abdul Rashid, who was apparently drunk, allegedly grabbed the mother’s hand and twisted it when she arrived at the station. After that, he attacked her and tore her clothes. Police officers showed up at the SIO’s room as the mother cried out for assistance.
