KARACHI: The number of patients in the city’s hospitals has surged as a result of vector-borne illnesses like dengue, malaria, chikungunya, and other viral infections.
Medical professionals estimate that at least 50 individuals a day with complaints of fever, chills, and body aches are being admitted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) and Civil Hospital. These patients may have dengue, malaria, chikungunya, or other viral illnesses.
At least 411 suspected cases of chikungunya were recorded in Sindh, and 153 of those instances were confirmed after a diagnosis, according to the Sindh Health Department.
This year, there were at least 1,724 dengue cases recorded in Sindh, with 1,484 of those cases occurring in Karachi alone. This year, dengue disease was also reported to have claimed one life in Sindh.
