Karachi: As part of the Community Policing Karachi (CPK) project, the Karachi police are preparing to introduce a new initiative by outfitting their mobile units with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. This would allow for real-time vehicle tracking and identification.
ANPR cameras are already in place at 16 police stations throughout Karachi, as well as in Defense, New Sabzi Mandi, Azizabad, and Soldier Bazaar, according to social activist and Community Police Karachi (CPK) Chief Murad Soni.
In preparation for Ramadan, the police now intend to increase their use by equipping 50 police mobiles with these cameras this week.
According to Soni, the system will interact with the Talash app for further verification and offer real-time warnings regarding whether a car is stolen.
