KARACHI: On Saturday (today), people saw a captivating halo emerge around the sun in many parts of Sindh, including Karachi.
Sun halos are the colorful circles that form around the sun, according to meteorology analyst Jawad Memon.
Memon stated that halos, which are created when light enters ice crystals in the high atmosphere, typically form close to the sun or moon.
Why does a solar halo form?
The halo effect is explained by the UK-based knowledge-sharing website Atmospheric Optics, which states that light is refracted and reflected by ice crystals, and may split into colors due to dispersion.
As cirrostratus clouds, which produce them, can indicate an oncoming frontal system, reports say that halo clouds typically imply rain will occur within the next 24 hours.
