On Wednesday, the matriculation exams in Karachi were held again. But the return to testing rooms has highlighted a number of problems that still afflict the educational system.
Students all around the city are forced to face the uncomfortable truth of having to sit through sweltering exam rooms as they get ready to take their exams. As the temperature rises, students are finding it difficult to focus on their studies due to the heat.
The Board of Secondary Education in Karachi declared on May 20 that the current matriculation exams would be postponed due to the extreme heatwave alarm in Sindh. In order to protect the students’ safety and wellbeing, the exams that were originally set to take place between May 21 and May 27 were postponed.
The minister of education boards issued orders, stressing the need to shield pupils from the intense heat, which led to the decision to postpone the tests.
