Doctors at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital determined on Thursday that a toddler who was brought dead to a hospital in Karachi with many marks of beatings had died naturally rather than as a result of torture.
Amna, age three, was taken to a government hospital in North Karachi by her mother, who left the child unharmed. Her father asserted that Amna’s mother had tortured her till she passed away.
The girl’s father, Shahbaz, verified that there were no new damage marks on her body, supporting the medico-legal officer’s (MLO) claim that the girl’s body had existing markings from previous injuries.
The mother who abandoned the girl’s lifeless body at the hospital and ran away is being sought for.
The father of the girl’s statement has been recorded by the police.
The mother ran away from the Sindh Government Hospital in the New Karachi UP Mor neighborhood after leaving the 3-year-old girl’s body behind. The child’s father then transported the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
The father of Amna accused his wife of killing the child. He stated that he was married to Kanwal for four years, and the two of them had split up two months beforehand.
He claimed that he got a call from an unidentified number informing him that Amna’s body was at the Edhi Home in Sohrab Goth.
