The water supply in Liaquatabad Town is seriously contaminated and unsafe for human consumption, according to a study done by Karachi University.
23 piped water samples from 2022 were examined for the study, which was published in the EQA – International Journal of Environmental Quality.
95.6% of the samples had metal contamination, which made them dangerous. Approximately 74% of the samples had E. coli, and more than 70% had fecal matter visible in them.
Lead investigator Dr. Aamir Alamgir emphasized that a malfunctioning distribution system, including leaking pipes and the mixing of sewage and drinking water, is mostly to blame for the contamination.
Additionally, the investigation discovered high concentrations of arsenic, iron, nickel, and lead in the water, all of which have the potential to cause long-term health problems.
