Maulana Fazl Wahab, the head of the Bankhad Ranowalitehsil council, addressed demonstrators during a sit-in. “We still await the reconstruction and compensation,” Wahab said, referring to the 2022 flash floods that destroyed roads and other infrastructure and claimed two lives.
According to Juma Shah, the chairman of the village council, residents are still suffering from the floods brought on by Wapda’s opening of the spillways on the Dubair Khawar hydropower project.
“Wapda has yet to fulfill its reconstruction and compensation promises, but we lost people to flooding,” he said.
Residents of Dubai also lament the lack of compensation.
After meeting with the protestors, the assistant commissioner informed them that the commissioner had convened a meeting on Wednesday to discuss their concerns, leading to the KKH being reopened in the evening.
