Karla Sofia Gascon recently issued an apology for the contentious social media remarks that returned and “caused hurt.”
The Oscar-nominated Emilia Perez actor, who is the first transgender person to receive a nomination, recently faced criticism for her remarks regarding the diversity of the Academy Awards and her previous tweets denigrating the Muslim community.
“I want to acknowledge the conversation around my past social media posts that have caused hurt,” she stated in a statement.
“As a member of a minority community, I am acutely aware of this suffering, and I sincerely apologize to everyone I have hurt. I’ve battled for a better world my entire life. Light, in my opinion, will always prevail over darkness.
