In observance of the resolution adopted on July 19, 1947, by 59 leaders of the Kashmiri community at an emergency meeting of the All Jammu and Kashmir Conference, July 19 is designated as the 77th ‘Youm-e-Ilhaq-e Pakistan’ for Kashmir.
The motion, put forth by Abdul Rahim and Khawaja Ghulam-ud-Din Wani, demanded that Kashmir be admitted to Pakistan on the basis of geography, culture, and religion. The Poonch uprising and the subsequent liberation of Azad Kashmir were caused by this incident.
Kashmiris have fought against Indian rule for 77 years. Concerns regarding the situation in Kashmir have been expressed time and time again by human rights organizations and the international media. The liberation movement is said to have claimed the lives of over 500,000 Kashmiris.
India is known as the largest military power in the region because it has over a million military and paramilitary personnel stationed there.
