“For portraying a plastic doll,” the Barbie star says he is “honoured” to be nominated for best supporting actor. However, he also says the director and star of the movie ought to have been nominated for Oscars in their respective categories.
Gosling, who portrayed Ken in the summer blockbuster hit, expressed his gratitude for the nomination and called it a “honor” to be considered for best supporting actor “for portraying a plastic doll.”
He also expressed his happiness for his co-star America Ferrera, saying that she was “so happy” that she was nominated for best supporting actress for her role as Gloria.
However, Gerwig and Robbie, who collaborated to bring the doll to life, were not nominated.
In a statement released to US media, Ryan Gosling said, “I am incredibly honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films.”
“I’m also immensely honored and proud that it’s for playing a plastic doll named Ken, something I never thought I’d be saying.
“However, without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two main creators of this monumental, internationally acclaimed movie, there would be no Barbie and no Ken.
Without their talent, perseverance, and genius, none of the actors on the movie could have received any recognition.
“To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.”
