After the Australian state of Victoria withdrew owing to escalating expenses, the Scottish city was designated official host; nevertheless, certain events may not take place at the Glasgow Games.
The long-term viability of the Commonwealth Games is in jeopardy, according to Kenny, the most decorated female Olympian in British history, unless towns put up a significant effort to host the event in its entirety.
“I really hope that someone steps up and says ‘we’ll take the next one’, because when sporting events disappear, you very rarely see them come back,” Kenny stated to Breakfast.
I believe that considering the past is necessary. Given how long the Commonwealth Games have been held, it would seem wrong to end them and ignore the sport’s rich past.
“It brings so many nations together; it’s a multi-sport event, and it’s on a huge stage; we have to keep it going.”
Up to ten sports could be staged in Glasgow, though it’s unclear which ones would be skipped.
Track cyclist Kenny, who won gold in the Commonwealth Games in both 2014 and 2022, stated that sports that are not featured at the Olympics should take precedence.
