Fashion designer Khadijah Shah, who founded Élan, has said that she will renounce her US citizenship in order to run for a reserved National Assembly seat for women on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ticket.
She made her decision because of a desire to support and serve her country, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf having offered her the seat.
Shah admits that making the decision to give up the safety and possibilities that came with being a citizen of the United States was not an easy one. She did, however, stress how deeply she is connected to Pakistan, calling it her “motherland” and the location she has spent her whole life.
