Khawaja Asif, the minister of defense, blamed the judiciary on Sunday for the delay in bringing the case against the perpetrators of the May 9, 2023, rioting and violence to a logical end.
The defense minister called imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan a “product of establishment” in a scathing speech from London, adding: “The judiciary delayed the matter of bringing those responsible for May 9 [mayhem] to justice”.
His comments followed the military courts’ first-phase sentence of two to ten years of “rigorous imprisonment” for 25 participants in the May 9 attacks on the state installations.
The minister also stated that “urgent decisions were needed in the matter of May 9.”
