On social media, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif shared strong opinions about Pakistan’s past relationship with the United States, the actions of previous leaders, and the perception that Pakistan would not object if Washington, D.C., called to ask for Imran Khan’s release and to hang Imran over PTI founder Imran while new leadership took over in the United States.
In response to alleged outside interference in Pakistani politics, Asif said that Pakistan “cannot dare to refuse the call” from the United States, citing instances in the past where defiance or acquiescence had serious repercussions.
In contrast to previous president Pervez Musharraf’s acquiescence, defense minister Asif emphasized former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s refusal to accept a $5 billion offer while defying American demands.
