Renowned portrait painter Jonathan Yeo created the piece. Some of his other subjects have included Idris Elba, Cara Delevingne, Sir David Attenborough, Nicole Kidman, Malala Yousafzai, and former prime ministers David Cameron and Tony Blair.
“It was a privilege and pleasure to have been commissioned by The Drapers’ Company to paint this portrait of His Majesty the King, the first to be unveiled since his coronation,” he said, unveiling his painting at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday.
“His Majesty the King was still His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales when I began this painting, and this portrait bears similarities to the butterfly I painted hovering over his shoulder.
