According to National Institutes of Health (NIH) officials, a youngster from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kohat area has been confirmed to have contracted polio, marking another occurrence in Pakistan.
Type-I poliovirus has been identified in the afflicted youngster, a two-and-a-half-year-old from Dara Adamkhel. Another child from the district was discovered to carry the virus earlier this month, making this the second polio case in Kohat this year.
Four sewage samples that were taken from Kohat also had positive poliovirus tests.
With this event, there have been 40 polio cases reported in Pakistan in 2024. Additionally, two new cases from Sindh province’s Sanghar and Mirpurkhas districts were reported on October 19.
