PARACHINAR: According to the police, jirga chiefs have mediated a truce in various parts of the Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where 184 people have been injured and 49 people have died as a result of a seven-day violent confrontation between two tribal factions.
According to a local police official earlier, the two parties have been battling since last Wednesday when a shooter opened fire at a council meeting holding negotiations over a long-standing dispute over farmland.
The News said on Tuesday that the fighting started at Boshera and eventually expanded to Peewar, Tangi, Balishkhel, Khaar Killay, Maqbal, Kunj Alizai, and the Para Chamkani area.The magazine also stated that a day earlier, the local authorities claimed to have succeeded in mediating a ceasefire between the warring tribes.
On Sunday, Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mahsud announced that the district administration and jirga members had successfully negotiated with the warring tribes in Kurram and convinced them to resign from their positions.
Regarding the earlier cease-fire that failed, the DC stated that they had succeeded in mediating a cease-fire in the Boshera region and had stationed security force personnel in the Balishkhel and Khar Kallay areas; however, after the fighting broke out again, a night raid was carried out from Khar Kallay in the Balishkhel area.
