KOHAT/PARACHINAR: According to The News on Saturday, the Grand Peace Jirga was postponed yesterday owing to a standoff between the warring factions over the surrender of heavy weapons, but it is set to begin today at 11 a.m.
GOC 9 Division Major General Zulfiqar Bhatti has been overseeing the negotiations at Kohat Fort for the past two months.
The jirga is also being attended by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abbas Majeed Marwat, Kohat Commissioner Mutasim Billah Shah, and the deputy commissioners of Kohat, Hangu, and Kurram.
Tribal confrontations have increased in the violence-plagued Kurram district, killing more than 130 people since a conflict between two tribal groups intensified in November.
