Due to their involvement in a WhatsApp group that resulted in the dismissal of a front-bench minister, the Labour Party has suspended eleven of its council members.
It is known that two of the council members are from Stockport Council, while the majority are from Tameside Council.
The action follows the party’s dismissal of Andrew Gwynne, the health minister, for posting messages on the group. It is now believed that Gwynne’s wife, Alison, was also suspended.
Following Mr. Gwynne’s dismissal, Burnley MP Oliver Ryan was suspended by the party due to remarks he made in the WhatsApp group.
A party spokeswoman commented on the 11 council members’ suspension, saying: “A group of council members have been administratively suspended from the Labour Party as part of our WhatsApp group inquiry.
