As the surrounding areas continue to choke on toxic smog, New Delhi topped the rankings on Wednesday, becoming the most polluted city in the world in terms of air quality, pushing Punjab’s capital Lahore down to the second position on the global pollution charts.
Around eight in the morning, the Swiss group IQAir’s live ratings showed that the two cities’ respective air quality indexes (AQIs) were 393 and 721.
Lahore, a 14 million-person city on the Indian border that is packed with factories, is frequently ranked as one of the most polluted cities in the world, but last month it reached record highs, forcing officials to take drastic steps to reduce the pollution.
In addition to Lahore, neighboring areas like as Multan, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala have also experienced severe air pollution.
