Orya Maqbool Jan, a well-known analyst and journalist who was detained by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in connection with a cybercrime case, has applied for release; the Lahore Sessions Court has not yet made a judgment, though.
Jan’s lawyer, Mian Ali Ashfaq, contended at the hearing, which was chaired by Judge Rafaqat Ali Qamar, that the FIA’s case is based only on conjecture. He claimed that there is no paperwork or proof to support the accusations, and that Jan is not likely to have any recovery.
In opposition to the FIA’s plea, Ashfaq asked the court to grant Jan’s release.
The court postponed making a verdict after weighing the reasons made by each party. A notification about Jan’s bail application and the FIA was previously sent by the Lahore sessions court on August 31.
