Lahore’s citizens awoke to gloomy skies for yet another day as the Punjabi capital once again topped the world pollution rankings on Monday due to growing fog.
According to Swiss air quality technology company IQAir, the city’s air quality index (AQI) this morning was 532. For over a week, the province capital topped the list of the most polluted cities in the world, a sign of the deteriorating air conditions.
Every year, as the temperature drops and the cold air traps smoke, vehicle emissions, and construction dust, Lahore fights pollution.
The Punjab Environment Protection Department issued a smog alarm on Sunday as the city’s air quality fell to severely low levels, with an AQI of 700.
