Boiler manufacturers increased prices by up to £120 per boiler in January in order to pay for impending fines for a green plan that has since been postponed.
Ministers had threatened to punish them with £3,000 for each installation where heat pumps did not account for 4% of sales instead of gas boilers.
The switch to electricity-powered heat pumps from gas-powered ones was intended to increase energy security and reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution.
The manufacturers were accused of “price gouging” by Energy Security Secretary Claire Coutinho, who told LBC that heat pump sales were already so high that minimal fines were expected.
