According to Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Pakistan is legally obligated to refrain from filing a lawsuit in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against India for its alleged “water aggression” because India is entitled to the water from the River Ravi under a treaty.
“India and Pakistan have an agreement about water resources. “We cannot interfere with India’s right to water on the River Ravi,” Tarar stated on Tuesday at the National Assembly’s Calling Attention Notice session on India’s actions.
“On this issue, recourse cannot be made to the International Court of Justice against India,” he stated.
As to the 1960 Indus Water Treaty, which was signed by the two nations, India is entitled to the waters of the Ravi, Sutlej, and Beas rivers.Zartaj Gul, a PTI MNA who introduced the notice, took aim at Tarar during a floor speech in the lower chamber of parliament, stating that it was regrettable that the law minister had acknowledged India’s ownership of the River Ravi today. In response to Gul, the minister of law stated that it is inappropriate to politicize legal matters.
