The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Qazi Faez Isa, is expected to retire soon. Azam Nazeer Tarar, the federal minister for law, refuted rumors of this on Monday, stating that the CJP does not wish to continue in office.
October of this year is the top judge’s scheduled retirement date, but as that day approaches, there have been many rumors that he may “extend” his career through legislation in parliament that focuses on the court.
Though CJP Isa had “no interest” in receiving an extension, the Center has repeatedly refuted these rumors and stated that nothing concrete was planned.
Legal experts assert there is no constitutional procedure for such an extension without amending the Constitution.
