“I don’t think you can control these things,” Wayne Anthony, a former party promoter, stated. When he first got to Ibiza in 1988, he started throwing parties and club events at some of the most recognizable locations on the island.
The tranquil Spanish island transformed into a party drug destination for ravers in the years that followed, with ecstasy and other party drugs being widely available.
“What Ibiza represented was this beautiful, hot island which was visually stunning and we knew you could party there quite legally,” Wayne stated.
“There was no need for you to peer over your shoulder. You might simply be as liberated as you are capable of being.”
There was a cost to that independence. Drug cartels and criminality came with the opulent clubs, all-day partygoers, and scorching Spanish weather.
“Fueled by a dangerous and lucrative drugs trade which drew as many criminals to its shores as it did party animals,” Ibiza Narcos delves into how the island changed into one of the world’s most lively party cities.
Wayne, who contributed to the documentary, had an interview with News prior to its premiere.
