Three representative bar councils in the federal capital unanimously declared they would observe a strike and boycott the high and district courts’ proceedings on Monday, calling the new judge postings in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) “malicious” and an “attack” on the judiciary’s independence.
The resolution requesting the retraction of a notification regarding the posting of three judges in the IHC was approved by the Islamabad Bar Council (IBC), Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA), and Islamabad District Bar Association (IDBA) at a combined session on Sunday.
The decision was made the day after President Asif Ali Zardari moved three justices from other high courts to the IHC, raising concerns that the future chief justice of the capital court might be a “transferred judge.”
