President-elect Donald Trump of the United States promised to levy 25 percent tariffs on Mexico and Canada when he takes office early next year, prompting the leaders of both nations to call for communication and collaboration.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated at a press conference on Tuesday that she will write to Trump emphasizing the importance of cooperating on shared difficulties.
Sheinbaum warned that tariffs will lead to inflation and job losses in both countries, saying, “To one tariff will come another and so on until we put our common businesses at risk.”
Trump announced his intention to “impose a 25% tariff on ALL products entering the United States from Mexico and Canada” in a social media post on Monday night.
