Regarding the admissibility of a petition contesting the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Amendment Ordinance, the Lahore High Court has postponed its decision.
Muneer Ahmed filed a petition, and at the hearing, Chief Justice Alia Neelam was asked to rule that the ordinance was illegal. The petitioner was urged by the chief justice to provide justification for the ordinance’s illegality.
Azhar Siddique, the petitioner’s attorney, contended that the ordinance was unnecessary because parliament was in session at the time and there was no urgency that called for it. He went on to say that a new committee was established following the ordinance’s enactment and that the Practice and Procedure Act had also been discussed previously.
