The DOJ, thirty US states, and the District of Columbia filed the antitrust case on Thursday. US Attorney General Merrick Garland declared, “It is time to break up Live Nation.”
In 2010, the entertainment company and Ticketmaster combined. According to the lawsuit, Live Nation currently has control over 80% or more of major venues’ main concert ticket sales through Ticketmaster.
A representative for Live Nation stated that the organization would fight back “against these baseless allegations” and predicted that the DOJ would be defeated in court since the case “ignores the basic economics of live entertainment.”.
The ticketing industry’s dominant company, Ticketmaster, has long annoyed fans and performers with its hidden fees, escalating prices, and restricted ticket availability because of presales.
