In Japan, a friendly sunfish that was apparently missing its human audience while its aquarium was temporarily closed was consoled in an unconventional manner.
The Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi prefecture-based Kaikyokan aquarium shared a picture of the sunfish swimming in front of pictures of people’s faces affixed to a line of uniforms.
Earlier this month, the aquarium posted on its X account that the action was a “last resort” to address the sunfish’s health problems, which a staff member thought were caused by loneliness.
And it seemed to work. The following day, the aquarium posted on X, “It seems to be in good health again!”
The sunfish began massaging its body instead of consuming jellyfish after the aquarium was closed for renovations in December.
