According to The Express Tribune, Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik has formally taken up the role of director general of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), which represents a significant change in the strategic orientation of Pakistan’s intelligence environment.
He was named the ISI DG last week.
Lt Gen Malik is regarded as one of the Pakistan Army’s “most capable operational commanders” and is renowned for his ability to lead complicated missions with prompt and efficient decisions. His vast background in operational intelligence has prepared him to manage a range of military matters.
General Malik commanded the Infantry Brigade in Waziristan and oversaw the Infantry Division in Balochistan before being appointed to his current position. At the renowned Sword of Honour, he served as Chief Instructor.
