Among the ‘100 Women for 2024’ listed by the British Broadcasting Corporation on Tuesday were two of Pakistan’s most powerful women.
Hadiqa Kiani, a singer and composer, and Maharang Baloch, a doctor and activist, made their nation proud by being recognized as this year’s most influential and inspirational women.
They were listed with other remarkable women from throughout the world, such as Nobel Peace Prize winner Nadia Murad, rape survivor Gisèle Pelicot, and stranded astronaut Sunita Williams.
What, however, makes Baloch and Kiani inspirational and influential?
Kiani rose to prominence in the 1990s and quickly established herself as one of Pakistan’s musical superstars thanks to her versatile vocals. In the South Asian female pop music industry, she was praised.
