LONDON/LAHORE: Due to malicious, false, and defamatory accusations, Pakistani-American tech entrepreneur Zia Chishti has prevailed in a significant defamation action against Amir Zia, the editor of Narratives Magazine, and the magazine itself.
Chishti was the target of severe charges from Narratives Magazine, which described his reputation as “toxic” and mentioned claims of his sexual misbehavior, breaking securities rules, and breaking other corporate laws.
Serial tech entrepreneur Chishti started the multibillion-dollar business that makes Invisalign braces and Afiniti, an artificial intelligence startup.
In 2018, President Mamnoon Hussain bestowed upon Chishti the Sitara-e-Imtiaz.
Muhammad Farhan Nabi, an Additional District Judge in Lahore, has declared that Chishti was maliciously and without cause maligned. The judge delivered a harsh decision, declaring that Narratives Magazine had seriously harmed Chishti and that the publication had provided no credible evidence at all in its defense.
The editor “is also directed to publish a clarification along with apology in his magazine regarding the article in question,” according to the extra district court, which granted Chishti the greatest defamation damages award in Pakistani history.
