In connection with the August 2022 incident that caused Mr. Rushdie to lose one eye, Hadi Matar is accused of attempted murder and assault.
The 27-year-old Mr. Matar has entered a not guilty plea to the accusations.
In the twice-delayed trial at Chautauqua County Court in New York State, Mr. Rushdie is expected to testify and appear in court alongside the defendants.
On the grounds that Mr. Rushdie’s then-upcoming book, a memoir about the incident, could be used as evidence and that the defendant’s team wanted to read its contents first, Mr. Matar’s defense team requested that the trial be postponed from its original January 2024 start date.
