A U.K. man was reported to have died from excessive vitamin D levels, and specialists are cautioning against taking dangerously high doses.
The Surrey assistant coroner produced a report last year after 89-year-old David Mitchener passed away from hypercalcemia, an accumulation of calcium in the body brought on by high vitamin D levels. The report urged regulatory agencies to alert consumers about the risk of excessive intake.
On May 10, 2023, Michener was admitted to East Surrey Hospital; he passed away ten days later. Jonathan Stevens, the assistant coroner, reported that tests showed his vitamin D levels were at the highest level that could be recorded.
