According to a survey published on Tuesday, most Manchester United supporters would prefer to build a new stadium than renovate Old Trafford.
Of the 50,000 United season ticket holders, club members, and executive club members surveyed, 31% were in favor of renovating one of the most recognizable stadiums in sports, while 52% preferred the concept of a new venue. 17% more were not sure.
The cross-city neighbors of United Premier League rivals Liverpool have renovated their Anfield stadium, but Manchester City moved to the new City of Manchester Stadium in 2003.
In September, United published artist’s renderings of a possible Old Trafford revitalization project, suggesting that a new stadium might be included in the multibillion-pound renovation.
