After 22 years on death row, Marcellus Williams, a Muslim man found guilty of killing Felicia Gayle in Missouri in 1998, was put to death on Tuesday. His final remarks are currently trending on social media.
This is his third execution in Missouri this year. It came after years of court battles and appeals, including two earlier execution stays.
His final remarks were made public online, including by Jill Stein, a contender for US president. Williams said, “All Praise Be To Allah In Every Situation,” as his final words.
Williams defended his innocence by pointing to instances of racial bias in jury selection and improper handling of DNA evidence.
