In the next five to ten years, Chelsea can “dominate” the Premier League, according to manager Enzo Maresca.
Even though Chelsea is third in the rankings and tied with Mikel Arteta’s rivals Arsenal on points and goal differential, the 44-year-old Italian has consistently downplayed his team’s chances of winning the championship this season.
After a resounding 3-0 victory over Aston Villa at home on Sunday, Chelsea overtook ailing champions Manchester City, but they are still nine points behind league leaders Liverpool.
Despite the enormous sums paid out in numerous transfer windows under their ownership group of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, Maresca has downplayed Chelsea’s ability to contend for championships.
Since the Clearlake acquisition, Chelsea has spent over £1.5 billion, mostly on longer-term, younger players.
