The popular life simulator, which debuted in 2000—more than 20 years ago—has been the subject of rumors regarding its adaptation for a number of months.
The video game publisher Electronic Arts (EA), a major player in the industry, declared that it is collaborating with Amazon MGM Studios on the movie.
It also verified that Kate Herron, the director of Loki, and Margot Robbie’s production business, LuckyChap, were involved.
According to EA, comedian and playwright Briony Redman from Britain will co-write the movie.
She had previously collaborated with Herron on a script for the most recent Doctor Who season. Herron also directed episodes of Netflix’s Sex Education.
The Sims will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year, and EA stated that it was “too early to share more” but promised improvements.
In this Maxis game, players take control of various aspects of the lives of cartoonish characters called The Sims.
The game is regularly updated, and the creators have included themed expansion packs with additional features, relationship dynamics, and, in one instance, the ability for users to transform their Sims into vampires throughout the years.
