Con artist Mark Acklom defrauded Carolyn Woods of £750,000 by making multiple loans to one of his associates at Barclays. As of right now, the bank has informed her that it would not give her any of the money back.
Carolyn Woods had said that the bank had breached its duty of care to her as a customer when a former employee and a member of the Barclays staff were detained during the police inquiry on suspicion of conspiracy, even though they were not prosecuted.
Following a six-month internal inquiry, the bank informed her that it would not reimburse her for any of the £750,000 she lost.
The deceptions committed by Mark Acklom
Serial scammer Acklom tricked Ms. Woods into falling for his romantic scheme. He claimed to be a secret MI6 agent and a wealthy Swiss banker named Mark Conway, and he courted her with promises of marriage. He served four years in prison before being released.
After convincing Ms. Woods to shift her money into a Barclays account, Acklom used coercion to get her to transfer the money in a series of “loans” into the account of an accomplice who had formerly worked for Barclays.
