Mark Ronson shared his opinion on Ryan Gosling’s iconic moment at the Critics’ Choice Awards in January 2024.
Ronson told PEOPLE magazine about Gosling’s joyful encounter, saying, “I think he was just sort of pleasantly surprised.”
“It was amazing: That meme went viral, and the song’s streams increased that week. “Everyone was watching because he’s just so funny,” he explained.
For perspective, on the night of the presentation, Ronson and his co-writer and co-producer Andrew Wyatt of the song I’m Just Ken won the award for best song.
As the couple accepted the trophy, the camera focused on Gosling, who sang the song in the 2023 smash film Barbie.
His very amusing deadpan reaction to the announcement lit up the internet, and Gosling’s shot sparked innumerable memes on social media shortly after.
Meanwhile, Mark Ronson was an executive producer on the film’s album, Barbie: The Album. He received more recognition this year for his involvement on the project, including a Grammy and the Critics’ Choice Award.
His song, I Am Just Ken, is also nominated for Best Original Song at the next Oscars, which will be place March 11, 2024.
