Marvel Studios is rejoicing over the newest MCU film to receive an Oscar nomination: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
“Congratulations to the cast and crew of Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for their Academy Award® nomination for Best Visual Effects!” the official studio Instagram account wrote.
Twelve Marvel movies were previously nominated in the same category as the group of misfit heroes who are now up for Best Visual Effects.
VFX supervisor Stephane Ceretti previously stated on ComicBook’s Phase Zero podcast, “He knows exactly where he wants to put everything,” realizing director James Gunn’s vision for the film. There are situations where we just need to talk about something or where we disagree.”
“It’s not like we disagree about it, but sometimes I think there’s a better way to accomplish this,” the speaker continued. And occasionally, I’m all for useful things.”
“I love what we can do to help filmmakers tell their stories,” he went on, “but I’m from that old school that says, ‘Hey, if we can shoot it, let’s shoot it.'” I therefore adore the two. I enjoy watching our special effects man, Daniel Sudick [senior special effects supervisor, Marvel Studios], blow stuff up on [set.”
Observing that “We’re thinking, ‘Oh, let’s do it.'” We were discussing something even today when he said, “I think we can.” Just go ahead and do it. So let’s do it if we are able to. And our special effects man says, “Yes, that sounds like something I’d love to do.” I say, ‘Well, then do it.’ If that’s the case, then that’s the way to go.”
