According to Fox Business, billionaire businessman Elon Musk has endorsed the forecast made by David Holz, the founder of the AI research lab Midjourney, that by the 2040s, there will be about 1 billion humanoid robots on Earth.
Musk responded on X (formerly Twitter), echoing Holz’s prediction that by the 2060s, there will be 100 billion robots in the solar system, mostly from extraterrestrial civilizations.
Musk co-founded Tesla, a business that has been actively involved in robotics since the creation of the Tesla Optimus, popularly known as the Tesla Bot. Prior to this, Musk said, “I think it has the potential to be more significant than the vehicle business over time.” This highlights the robot’s potential importance. In August 2021, during Tesla’s AI Day, the prototype was unveiled.
Musk stated that he intended to build millions of Optimus robots, each of which would cost an estimated $20,000.
Musk emphasized the extraordinary potential of Optimus in the upcoming years, even as he acknowledged the need for additional improvement. With a goal of having the “extremely capable” robot on the market in three to five years, he plans to develop the humanoid robot.
Musk views humanoid robots as a component of Tesla’s larger goal to “make the future awesome,” reflecting the company’s dedication to innovation and technical growth even though they may not directly relate to the company’s primary focus on renewable energy.
