The Cholistan Institute of Desert Studies building collapsed at Islamia University Bahawalpur due to a tremendous explosion caused by a gas leak, without a fire breaking out.
As soon as rescue crews got to the scene, they quickly extracted seven injured people from the rubble. One of the casualties, a student by the name of Ashfaq, was taken right away to the Multan Burn Center for specialized care after suffering serious burns that covered 80% of his body.
He is still in a serious state, and doctors are trying nonstop to stabilize him.
In her analysis of the event, Dr. Shazia Anjum stated, “It is understood that the gas had leaked, building up pressure.”
It burst at the slightest spark, bringing down the building without really setting fire to anything. The lack of fire suggests that the building’s materials did not catch fire, preventing more damage.”
Dr. Javed added, “It was not chemical nor cylinder-related, but rather a small leakage in the gas fitting that led to the blast.” in response to questions about the explosion’s cause.
